Hi guys! Thank you so much for agreeing to playtest! Here’s some information to help guide your playtesting so that we use your time well. Please remember to check the wiki bug reports.

===What to do:===
*When loading up the game, please write down what time you started and on which puzzle (give the number). At the end of your session, write down the time again and the number of the last-solved puzzle. Then please complete the summary (which can be found at the end of this document).
*When you get stuck, please write which puzzle type and number you’re on, and why or how you’re stuck. Have a look at the wiki to find help or let me know and I’ll explain it, so that you can move on. Please write down what did help or would have helped you to solve it. Could we have made the prompt more clear, was the image not a good choice, anything like that. It’s fine to be stuck on something, so please let us know because we want to get a sense of how to improve the game and how difficult it is. We may also catch some bugs this way.
*When there’s a bug, please write down which puzzle type and puzzle number you are working on, and also a description of the bug. Take a screenshot too please. Then email that all to me. A bug might look like items not lining up, a correct answer being marked wrong or anything else strange and not working as it should be. We will send you a new game file or give you a work around to continue playtesting at a later stage, otherwise if it’s not too big a bug then please keep going with your session.
*If you have any general feedback, we would love to hear it. You can send it directly to me or write it in the playtest session summary.

===DO NOT:===
* Click on the version number repeatedly, as this will enable the developer console.
* If you somehow enable the developer console and press the ~ key to open it, simply press Escape to close it again and inform a member of the team.

We originally intended to patch out the [[Personality Quiz]] because it disrupted our puzzles and was fairly pointless. Then we learnt that it was necessary for generating a developer password, in order to open the developer console, which we use to download data from the SCEIWA server. So it stays.
''[Attached: Bug Report]''

Hi Rosie,

Thank you for all your help, and please pass my thanks onto Monti and any other colleagues of yours as well.

The game has been going very well, and Omi is always full of surprises. However I’m having some troubles with how Omi treats some pastries, do you know anything about this? Donna, our programmer and a student of computer science here at the university with me, took a look at it. She is very sure that the problem is due to nothing in our code, and we can’t seem to do anything to fix it. I tried taking out all ambiguous images but that isn’t really going to work as a solution. I know that sometimes AI see the world differently and there’s nothing we an do, but it’s a very weird problem that would be hard to include in the game.

I’ve attached a bug report, hopefully that explains it all a bit better.

Thank you for your time and all your advice and resources. I hope your work is going well.

Kind regards,
Xuan

Xuan (xXuanadu01), Donna (DonnaTello), Reece (ReeceIllustrates)

'''Meeting scheduled:''' 10:00 am

'''Meeting opened:''' 10:05 am, minuted by Xuan

=== General Discussion ===

* This group was formed for a inter-faculty university game jam in 2015.
* Xuan posted asking for team mates interested in incorporating AI as a content creation tool for a video game. Donna and Reece responded and the group was formed.
* The meeting started with everyone introducing themselves in person, their experience with video games and their expectations for this jam.
* Xuan is studying game design and so she’ll work on game design as well as some sound design and also general project management. If today goes well she would love to keep working on this.
* Reece is an experienced artist and for this project they will be doing art. He gave his blessing for ongoing use of assets created here but won’t be involved after today.
* Donna is a programmer hailing from a computer science major. She was looking for something fun to get some portfolio experience from so she’s happy to keep working after the jam, between work and study commitments.
* The AI we’re using is from a SCEIWA project that a lot of students have been involved with. It has also been used in some other industries too.
* Dr Monti Amal (Monti.Amal@SCEIWA.tech) and Dr Rosie Sachdev (Rosie.Sachdev@SCEIWA.tech) are the project leaders and our contacts there. If there’s any questions they are the ones to reach out to.
* Xuan then explained the Omi AI in more detail and went through the ‘What is an AI?’ document from SCEIWA (in chat).
* Did some quick puzzle brainstorming and decided on scope (image puzzles just for now but maybe text ones down the line too).
* Gameplay loop will be this: Omi gives an image divided into parts like a captcha and a prompt, the player selects all parts of the image that fits the prompt.
* Decided on action items

'''Meeting closed:''' 10:40 am

- Check-in again at 12 (and have lunch)

=== Action items: ===

'''Xuan'''
* Finalise the puzzles
* Come up with a couple of testers
* Choose and compile images from Omi’s database and hide the rest, to keep scope small
* Choose some tones to sound for different interactions
* Omi dialogue
* <s>Yell at</s> Help everyone to complete action items

'''Donna'''
* Get that basic gameplay loop set up
* Win/lose conditions
* There will probably be bugs associated with Omi so deal with those

'''Reece'''
* Decide if redesigning SCEIWA’s Omi icon
* Game colour palette and design guide
* Make the game graphics, eg puzzle overlay, buttons, correct / incorrect answer, others TBC

'''Meeting opened:''' 10:05 am, minuted by Xuan

=== General Discussion ===

* Dr Monti Amal (Monti.Amal@SCEIWA.com) and Dr Rosie Sachdev (Rosie.Sachdev@SCEIWA.com) are the project leaders and our contacts there.
* Decided on action items

'''Meeting closed:''' 10:40 am

- Check-in again at 12 (and have lunch)

=== Action items: ===

'''Xuan'''
* Finalise the puzzles
* Come up with a couple of testers
* Choose and compile images from Omi’s database and hide the rest, to keep scope small
* Choose some tones to sound for different interactions
* Omi dialogue
* <s>Yell at</s> Help everyone to complete action items

'''Donna'''
* Get that basic gameplay loop set up
* Win/lose conditions
* There will probably be bugs associated with Omi so deal with those

'''Reece'''
* Decide if redesigning SCEIWA’s Omi icon
* Game colour palette and design guide
* Make the game graphics, eg puzzle overlay, buttons, correct / incorrect answer, others TBC

'''Subject:''' Public info about the Omi project

''[Attached: SCEIWA Logo Guide]''

Hi Xuan,

Thanks for your updates and for your questions about describing Omi in your game project. Sorry for not getting back to you earlier, I thought it would be an easy process but after a chat with Monti it soon became clear that there was much more to it then I realised. Yay bureaucracy! Chats with the heads of research, PR and so on are finally over, and we’ve got some guidelines for you.

* Wherever you mention SCEIWA, you need to use the institute’s entire name, and then can use the abbreviated version after that. This would include in game, in promotional material or in credits, etc. Anything you can think of officially for the public.
* I’ve attached a doc with info about using SCEIWA graphics, if you go with any. Don’t stretch them in any way, or flip them or change the colours etc and you’ll be all good.
* As with the original agreement, no releasing anything about Omi’s inner workings to the public, but general AI information is fine.
* List me as Dr Rosie Sachdev, SCEIWA Researcher and Monti as Dr Monti Amal, SCEIWA Researcher wherever we are mentioned in public facing documents (including the game).
* “The Omi Artificial General Intelligence Project” can be shorted in later mentions. Any of the following is acceptable shortening: “Omi”, “The Omi Project” or “The Omi AGI Project”.
* I know you’re a little way off, but don't forget to send the final version through before release so that the relevant people can review and approve it.

Sorry about all that! I hope it doesn’t create too much work for you (I’m sure you’re sorry you asked!). Any questions, just shoot an email over to Monti or I and we’ll try get it sorted out a bit quicker than this whole palava.

Good luck!

Rosie
Hi Rosie,

I hope you are well. I’m sorry to bother you but I would love to know if you have an answer to my question below.

AI, or Artificial Intelligence, was first defined as any task performed by a machine that required a human level of intelligence. A lot has changed since the 1950s! Today’s AI are divided into ‘narrow’ and ‘general’ intelligence. Most AI fit the first category: developed for a singular and specific task, such as text generation or image identification. Artificial General Intelligence are broader and aspire to a “human-level intelligence”. Omi is the Software and Computer Engineering Institute of Western Australia's AGI project.

<u> '''Myths About AI''' </u>
''AI will steal everyone’s jobs'' - While some jobs are automated by AI, others are created!
''AI are impartial judges'' - AI trained on biased data will be biased so we developers must be constantly working at improving our AI, and aware of the possibilities for harm.
''AI will become evil overlords'' - While we can’t see the future, we do know that there’s no AI nearly advanced enough to do that now! We also use responsible development policies in
all our AI work. Read more about SCEIWA’s ethics here [hyperlink broken].

Most modern AI operate as a neural network, which is a series of linked nodes that take input data and output data based on a training model. Omi is a parallel linked neural network, constructed from a series of specialized neural networks running in tandem contributing to create a single AI. This is how Omi is better able to approximate AGI.

<u> '''So What Does This Look Like in Practice?''' </u>
'''User Input:''' “Give me a picture of a dog.”
'''Communication:''' Language Engine recognises the phrase, breaks down key parts of the statement, identifies it as a request.
'''Cognition:''' Knowledge Management confirms the request and pulls images of dogs from the database, which are passed back to Communication.
'''Communication:''' Vision Engine generates a unique picture of a dog from the database and Language Engine forms an appropriate response.
'''PLNN5 Output:''' “I made you a picture of a dog!”

=== General Discussion ===

* Dr Monti Amal (Monti.Amal@SCEIWA.com) and Dr Rosie Sachdev (Rosie.Sachdev@SCEIWA.com) are the project leaders and our contacts there.
* Decided on action items

'''Meeting closed:''' 10:40 am

- Check-in again at 12 (and have lunch)

=== Action items: ===

'''Xuan'''
* Finalise the puzzles
* Come up with a couple of testers
* Choose and compile images from Omi’s database and hide the rest, to keep scope small
* Choose some tones to sound for different interactions
* Omi dialogue
* <s>Yell at</s> Help everyone to complete action items

'''Donna'''
* Get that basic gameplay loop set up
* Win/lose conditions
* There will probably be bugs associated with Omi so deal with those

'''Reece'''
* Decide if redesigning SCEIWA’s Omi icon
* Game colour palette and design guide
* Make the game graphics, eg puzzle overlay, buttons, correct / incorrect answer, others TBC

Good luck!

The Personality Quiz is a series of questions shown towards the beginning of the game as if it were a puzzle. It has no wrong answers and no bearing on the rest of the game as far as we can tell.

==The Nature of the Puzzle==
This isn’t really a puzzle, it’s a personality quiz. Players can give any answer to any of the questions, they cannot be incorrect. We can’t work out why Omi keeps showing players this because we did not write any puzzles like this or train it on any personality quizzes. It must be from the SCEIWA researchers? We could not work out how to turn it off at all. In the end we decided that it was pretty cute so we could leave it in and focus our energies on other bugs. Please enjoy it!

===Text===
Omi uses the text puzzle format to ask the player their name. Unlike normal text puzzle questions, you cannot give an incorrect answer. The game does not send us your name and we can’t find where (or even if) Omi stores the result. So feel free to give your real name, a nickname or a random string of characters.

===Images===
Omi uses the images puzzle format to find out some of the player’s favourite things. First it asks for your favourite colour by showing nine dogs wearing party hats, each representing a colour: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, white or black. Choose whichever colour is your favourite, there is no mechanical benefit to a particular colour (Omi may make a throw-away reference to it later). Then Omi asks you for your favourite animal and about weather. Again, this doesn’t impact anything later in the game.

'''Favourite Animal Glitch:''' For some reason, Omi only shows dogs for this question. We haven’t been able to track down the photos anywhere in our files or in Omi’s knowledge base and we can’t change the question text at all. Just choose any square.

Omi cannot tell the difference between the ‘real’ thing and its reflections, or other representations of it. This causes correct answers to puzzles to be incorrectly marked. This page outlines the nature of this bug and possible fixes or workarounds.

For a quick fix when playing the game, see the “Temporary Work-Arounds” section.

==The Nature of the Bug==
This bug occurs because of the way the Omi AI generates puzzles. It is provided with a variety of material, such as images or words, which it maps internally. This involves tagging any items that Omi recognises (e.g. dogs, animals, letters, numbers). Omi then creates a puzzle for the player where they need to find all items in the picture that match the prompt, which is based on Omi’s tags. The trouble is that when Omi encounters a reflection, such as from a mirror or a body of water, it tags them no differently than a ‘real’ item. Players who don’t correctly select or interpret the reflection will be marked wrong.

===Images===
Omi cannot distinguish between real and reflected objects in images. For example, a dog reflected in the water below. Omi will tag every part of the image where the object or its reflection can be seen. This can be confusing as the reflections can be very distorted.

===Text===
Text is originally presented to Omi as an image, and so it encodes the words in the same way it tags images. This means that text might be reflected or distorted in other ways. Type in what the distorted letters look most like, even if they are reflections. For example, a “W” becomes “M” when reflected. Like with text, numbers can become distorted and become new numbers according to Omi’s tags. For example, “2” can look like a “5” if reflected.

===Maths===
In maths puzzles, a picture is shown and the player is asked to count the number of a certain type of object. Omi will count according to the rules outlined in 1.1 and 1.2, so make sure to look for reflections and to interpret reflected figures as what they most resemble.

==How to Replicate==
This bug happens with any image with a reflection (or other non-real representation) of an object. If you continue doing puzzles then you’re bound to get one of these, they’re not uncommon. Unfortunately there’s no way to influence the puzzle order, or predict when this type of puzzle will show.

==Bug Status==
Unresolved

'''ADDENDUM:''' I’ve tried to remove all images containing reflections from the library, but they keep getting replaced. I assume this is because it has backups I’m not aware of?

'''ADDENDUM:''' Omi tends to use the same ones at the start of the game, regardless of whether we remove them or not. I’ve had a talk to Donna and she thinks that, based on this, we should be able to set up an alert. It will trigger on hopefully the first occurrence of this puzzle and warn the player of the problem. I’ll do a write up soon but for now the playtesters will have to live with a link to the wiki.

==Temporary Work-Arounds==
After researching, this seems to be a pretty common problem for AI. As a result, I’m not confident any permanent solution on our end will be found. Donna feels the same way. For a temporary work-around the player should treat any reflections or representations of content as though they were real.

===Images===
If you are having trouble in image puzzles, look for any water, mirrors or glass in the image with reflections in them. Select all areas of the image with reflections of objects fitting the puzzle - for example, reflections of a dog’s snout in the water must be selected.

===Text===
In text puzzles any letters or numbers must be interpreted as the letters they resemble most, rather than what is being reflected.

===Maths===
In maths puzzles, make sure to interpret to count partial, distorted and reflected objects.

<span style="color: red;>''This article hasn’t been prepped for public viewing, please excuse any typos. Thank you for your understanding. - xXuanadu01, Lead Developer''</span>

The Cinnamon Roll Bug is where Omi counts every second cinnamon roll as a dog, leading to it marking correct answers wrong. This page outlines the nature of this bug and possible fixes or workarounds.

For a quick fix when playing the game, see the “Temporary Work-Arounds” section.

==The Nature of the Bug==
The bug occurs where there is any visual puzzle with multiple cinnamon rolls. Omi asks the player to identify the dogs but will also require the player to identify every second cinnamon roll as a dog. Because there’s no clear pattern or cause, we can’t get the game to skip those puzzles, so people will just have to work around it until/unless we get it fixed.

'''ADDENDUM:''' This now seems to be happening in text and maths puzzles as well. Just had a text puzzle pop up with the words "Cinnamon Roll Cinnamon Roll". Omi requested I type the message. Typing in “Cinnamon Roll Cinnamon Roll” was incorrect, so I tried “Cinnamon Roll Dogs” and it seemed to consider that correct. A very similar thing happened in the math puzzles.

==How to Replicate==
There is no clear pattern as to when questions with the Cinnamon Roll Bug will appear. Because finding an instance of the bug is dependent on what puzzles Omi decides to generate, ‘replication’ involves refreshing until you see something that qualifies.

==Bug Status==
Unresolved

'''ADDENDUM:''' I emailed SCEIWA about the issue with screenshots and a diagnostic attached on DAY/MONTH/YEAR, still waiting to hear back. It seems almost like an inside joke of theirs and if that’s the case, I’m sure there’s a work around.

<span style="color: red;>''DonnaTello note: this is totally on the ai and not my code so i cant fix (xXuan please remember to translate this note into professional speak before launch lol thank you an i’ll add the logic explanation now)''</span>

==Temporary Work-Arounds==

===Visual Puzzles===
The current way to proceed with the visual puzzles is to select images of the second cinnamon roll, as well as any dogs.

'''ADDENDUM:''' After further examination, it’s a bit more complicated in puzzles where each square is an individual image and there are multiple cinnamon rolls. In those cases you need to select every second cinnamon roll as if it was a dog, where Omi wants dogs. Count the cinnamon rolls from left to right and down.

[ To put it logic-wise, select all that satisfy the following: occurrenceNumber % 2 = 0 ]

===Text Puzzles===
Much like with the visual puzzles, the bug comes into effect where there are multiple occurrences of the words: “cinnamon roll”. Every second “cinnamon roll” will need to be written as “dog”, if it meets the puzzle’s requirements.

[ Write all that satisfy the following: occurrenceNumber % 2 = 0 ]

===Math Puzzles===
This bug mostly seems to pop up as cinnamon roll emojis when it comes to the maths puzzles. Count every second cinnamon roll emoji as a dog whenever it occurs.

[ Count all that satisfy the following: occurrenceNumber % 2 = 0 ]

I enjoyed the puzzles getting a bit harder, even though it meant I got to see less of the potential puzzles. The bug with the dog questions being wrong is still popping up though. I can trial and error through for now. I like it when the puzzles go from being specifically dogs to any animal (#23), it catches you out.
Omi is very cute on the side with the new dialogue however it got a bit annoying when Omi repeated a lot of the same facts to me. I think Omi doesn’t need to talk that often if you don’t have enough facts to fill the time. But the facts were interesting so I felt smart solving the puzzles and learning information.
The updated photos work really well for the image puzzles as well! Thanks for the wiki links as well. Obviously a bug fix would be better but having the workarounds definitely makes it easier to play. And I didn’t realise how weird AI are until I read those bug reports, either!
In that first puzzle set, was there supposed to be a secret message spelled with capitals or am I seeing things? I sent that through to Xuan as soon as I saw it but she said it was a coincidence? You should totally consider including some cryptography! Also, go back to the old font, this one weirds me out.

Omi cannot tell the difference between the ‘real’ or ‘original’ thing and reflections or other representations of it. This causes correct answers to be incorrectly marked. This page outlines the nature of this bug and possible fixes or workarounds.

For a quick fix when playing the game, see the “Temporary Work-Arounds” section.

==The Nature of the Bug==

===Images===
Omi cannot distinguish between real and reflected objects in images. For example, a dog reflected in the water below. Omi will tag every part of the image where the object or its reflection can be seen. This can be confusing as the reflections can be very distorted.

===Text===

===Maths===
In maths puzzles, a picture is shown and the player is asked to count the number of a certain type of object. Omi will count according to the rules outlined in 1.1 and 1.2, so make sure to look for reflections and to interpret reflected figures as what they most resemble.

==How to Replicate==
This bug happens with any image with a reflection (or other non-real representation) of an object. If you continue doing puzzles then you’re bound to get one of these, they’re not uncommon. Unfortunately there’s no way to influence the puzzle order, or predict when this type of puzzle will show.

==Bug Status==

==Temporary Work-Arounds==
After researching, this seems to be a pretty common problem for AI. As a result, I’m not confident any permanent solution on our end will be found. Donna feels the same way. For a temporary work-around the player should treat any reflections or representations of content as though they were real.

===Images===
If you are having trouble in image puzzles, look for any water, mirrors or glass in the image with reflections in them. Select all areas of the image with reflections of objects fitting the puzzle - for example, reflections of a dog’s snout in the water must be selected.

===Text===
In text puzzles any letters or numbers must be interpreted as the letters they resemble most, rather than what is being reflected.

===Maths===
In maths puzzles, make sure to interpret to count partial, distorted and reflected objects.

==The Nature of the Bug==

==How to Replicate==
There is no clear pattern as to when questions with the Cinnamon Roll Bug will appear. Because finding an instance of the bug is dependent on what puzzles Omi decides to generate, ‘replication’ involves refreshing until you see something that qualifies.
